Why You Should Take Action and not Drift
I used the word "drifting" in this section to basically mean - not doing anything about your problem. It's very easy to do. When a person is going through withdrawal symptoms, at least in my case, I would sit there and do nothing (well, I used to anyway). What I had to do was to take some sort of action. Either to get on my stationary bike and start peddling fast or do self-hypnosis. I noticed that I felt a lot better after these two activities.
It's very common for a person to sit there and vegitate. That is why they have to get up and do something. They shouldn't let the day go by - they have to get up and do something. If the person is laying in bed trying to sleep it off, they should get up, sit down in a nice chair and meditate.
Here's a little trick that I learned. Just accept the pain. I know - it's hard to do, but instead of focusing on your withdrawal symptoms, just allow it to take place. When I'm doing self-hypnosis - I feel the "pain" and try to absorb it as much as possible - in other words, try to feel worse. Then for some odd reason, it relaxes me. After I'm done with my meditation (self-hypnosis), I feel a lot better.
The bottom line is, when you are at home and you start feeling your symptoms coming on, then it's time to do something. Please don't sit there and do nothing but feel the symptoms. Just think of Nike - "Just do it", or my slogo - "Get going and keep moving".
UPDATE:
I thought I would update this page so it can help you more when you don’t feel motivated when the lack of Klonopin in your system has you down (I’m talking about the withdrawal phase). It’s so easy to just stay in bed in the morning if you don’t have to get up and go to work. It’s very easy to stay in bed. When you are withdrawing from Klonopin or Xanax, you don’t feel like doing anything.
I know this sounds easy but it isn’t. Make sure you set your alarm. DO NOT hit the snooze when your alarm sounds. Hop up automatically and TURN OFF your alarm clock. You HAVE to make a habit of it. It will get easier after you do it the first week. Also, try to get to bed the same time every night and then up every morning the same time as well. It is all about creating good habits and this will get you out of the “drift” periods when it comes to Klonopin withdrawal.
If this does not work – keep trying. If you completely fail at this (and many do – so please do not be upset about it – this is a tough thing to do) – go back to meditation. What I mean is just visually see yourself get out of bed (during self-hypnosis) when the alarm sounds. Do this until you can actually do this in reality.
I hope throughout this website I don’t sound like that everything can be resolved by visualization when meditating. However, we are talking about the mind can do amazing things when we want to overcome a certain obstacle like Klonopin withdrawal and its symptoms. However, each problem will take a various amount of time to resolve. Some problems like Klonopin withdrawal may take months. Other problems like phobias may take years, but would lessen over a period of time.
So when you meditate getting out of bed when the alarm sounds, this should not take too long to get into the habit. This is not a serious problem, even if the Klonopin withdrawal does not want you to get out from underneath the covers. Also, different people (at least with this type of visualization in getting out of bed) will all be different. One may meditate for a couple days and they can get out within the first week. Others may take possibly up to three months – though I seriously doubt it would take that long to master.
All in all, you can’t stay in bed. You have to get up and live your life, no matter what the symptoms are doing to you. I know it is extremely rough – but you can do it!
