Klonopin and Exercising
I had to rewrite this page since I wanted to talk more about the subject of exercising and how it effects the usage of Klonopin as well as withdrawal symptoms. Previously, I was testing when I had the Klonopin withdrawal symptom of mind fog, I would do something called “Insanity” which is an exercise program by Beach Body. This was an hour long event (there are DVDs with a half-hour long though) that had me doing various exercises on average of thirty to forty-five seconds each. I recently stated that my “mind fog” or disorientation would get better. However, I did discover something recently that if I have not been taking Klonopin for a day or two – and I’m feeling pretty good, I would do Insanity. A couple minutes into the exercise, I would get my mind fog symptom and some sluggishness (I never experienced that before). I would basically have to fight through the whole hour for it to disappear. So in all fairness, exercise my bring on some of the withdrawal symptoms.
I am not trying to scare anyone out of exercising. I just want to bring out the fact that it is better to exercise when you start having symptoms rather than not having symptoms. For some reason or the other, when you are feeling now withdrawal symptoms and if you exercise, the symptoms will occur but then disappear throughout the workout. It’s just something you really have to work through.
It isn’t just the program Insanity that can do this to you. ANY exercise will ignite symptoms, but I have tested this over and over again and found that if you do keep on working out and just bear the symptoms – they will pretty much cease. I would not recommend you taking any klonopin before you exercise since that may make you sluggish.
When I was taking Xanax years ago – I would lift weights and seemed like things were ok…but to tell you the truth, my memory is a little bit fried and I can’t recall anything bad happening when I lifted while I was taking Xanax. Also – you have to remember that it varies from person to person. Maybe you could get headaches when you start exercising – and believe me…it’s very darn hard to workout when you have a headache. If you do have symptoms like this – I would advice you to skip exercising and to try and take care of the headache by lying down or taking a hot shower. Meditation could work – but that would be hard to do as well. A hot shower really works for me as I said on another page – the steam from the hot water enters your brain and opens up the blood vessels, thereby relieving most of the headache. You can also take Bayer or some type of pain medication to relieve it – but take recommended amount of what it says on the bottle.
If you older than forty or you have bad joints, I would recommend you NOT to try Insanity out. It is great for losing weight, but I have found out that it is very bad at least on my knees. There have been other people complain about lower back pains after doing Insanity for a while. However, to be fair to the program and the company “Beach Body”, they do give ample warning of this. My wife and I (who are both over forty) basically have found out it is for the “younger generation”.
So if you can’t do Insanity – what would be the recommendations be? I would try simple cardio exercises such as stationary biking, walking, even lifting light weights. It really depends on how much you can do. I have tried stationary biking in the past (while watching a movie) and it really helps with the Klonopin withdrawal symptoms. One – you have a movie distracting you and you are not thinking about your symptoms. Two – you have blood pumping through your veins that is releasing endorphins which help you with a sense of well being.
So what is my true recommendation? Well here it is. I will suggest the above paragraph. Not dinner and a movie – but exercising and a movie. Let’s face it – everyone needs to lose a few pounds. That’s one plus. Another one would be your working out your heart – which could be preventing high blood pressure and/or heart disease. Lastly, you are getting your mind off of your Klonopin or Xanax withdrawal symptoms. I would try it out if I were you. However, if you want to go to extreme exercising – you should try Insanity – but make sure you read the warnings on it. This is not for the faint of heart.
I will also go as far as to exercise every time you watch television. Save up for a nice stationary bike where it doesn’t make a lot of noise and get on the thing and ride, even if you are not experiencing any Klonopin symptoms at the moment. Go a little slow if you want too. I did find that the more intense the exercise – your symptoms will be elevated. So go slow but fast enough to get your heart pumping.
When you lift weights (most people don’t – but if you are one of those “go-getters”, just be prepared to accept your withdrawal symptoms to occur (that’s if you are not experiencing any Klonopin withdrawals at the time). I’m not saying it will come – but again, through my experience, the more intense exercise, the more chance of you feeling the mind fog, headaches, dizziness or whatever it is that you usually get when there is a lack of Klonopin within your system. Again, work through it. By the end of the workout, the endorphins will bust through and help you get rid of the withdrawals – it happens all the time for me.
Before I end this page, I still want you to make sure you visit your doctor and talk to him about what kind of exercises you should do. Make sure you tell him that you are on Klonopin or Xanax (or any other kind of Benzo medication (of course – he should know that by now since he is the one prescribing you the meds)). You might want to tell him of any other problems you have (such as dizziness or possibly a knee injury) and just take it from there. I legally have to say this – but I am serious about you seeing your doctor before you take any action when it comes to exercising to at least overcome your Klonopin.
I hope this helps you a lot. I know that exercise helps me tremendously. I believe the only thing that helps me more is my faith and also meditation.
